TCCA - 90 Trichloroisocyanuric Acid : control of biofouling in swimming pools
Waste Water/ ETP Treatment Chemicals
pH adjustment :
The most commonly used chemicals for pH adjustment in effluent plants are lime, sodium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate.
Coagulants :-
1. POLYMER - food industry, oil fields, petrochemical plants and metal working plant
2. polyaluminium chloride - effective BOD/COD reduction. Excellent phosphorous removal. Good colour removal.
3. Aluminium hydroxide chloride - Good organics /colour removal. Also excellent phosphorous removal
4. Polyaluminium chloride- BOD/COD reduction. Excellent phosphorous removal. Good colour removal.
5. cationic polymer.- Effective BOD/COD removal with good organics/colour removal, phosphorous removal
6. Ferric chloride - Reduces levels of heavy metals (e.g. lead, coper, cadmium and zinc)
Flocculants :-
1. Polyacrylamide - use as a flocculant across a range of industries
2. anionic polymer- flotation, sedimentation, filtration, thickening, centrifugation and belt pressing.
3. cationic polymer - A superior quality flocculant for the removal of suspended solids
4. Hydrogen peroxide - Hydrogen peroxide is used to reduce the BOD and COD of industrial wastewaters
Oxidation (Disinfection) :-
1. Sodium Hypochlorite - disinfection goals through bacteria and virus inactivation.
2. 9% Hydrochloric acid - It destroys phenolics, simple cyanides by oxidation.
Reverse Osmosis Plant (RO) Chemicals
· Antiscalants:- These chemicals prevent mineral scaling on RO membranes, which can be caused by calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, silica, and other compounds.
· Biocides: Biocides are used to control microbial growth, which can foul and damage RO membranes. Common biocides include those based on isothiazolinone and DBNPA.
· Acids (Hydrochloric, Sulfuric): Acids are used to lower the pH of the feed water, which can help prevent scaling and improve membrane performance. Sulfuric acid is often preferred due to its lower cost.
· Alkalies (Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Carbonate): These are used to raise the pH of the feed water or for membrane cleaning.
· Sodium Hypochlorite: Used for disinfection (chlorination) of the raw water or product water to prevent biological scaling.
· Sodium Bisulfate: Used to neutralize chlorine, which can damage RO membranes.
· Membrane Cleaning Chemicals: These include acid cleaners, alkaline cleaners, detergents, and chelating agents to remove various types of fouling (mineral, organic, biological) from the membranes. Examples include citric acid, EDTA, and various detergents
Swimming Pool Chemicals
1. Oxygen Scavengers:
· Sodium sulfite: A widely used oxygen scavenger, especially in lower pressure boilers.
· Hydrazine: Effective at removing oxygen, but can be more hazardous to handle than sodium sulfite.
· DEHA (Diethylhydroxylamine): A liquid oxygen scavenger, often used in higher pressure boilers.
· Sodium erythorbate: FDA-approved and suitable for boilers where steam contacts food products.
2. Alkalinity Builders:
o Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda): A strong alkali, used to raise the pH.
o Potassium hydroxide: Another strong alkali, sometimes preferred over sodium hydroxide.
3. Neutralizing Amines:
· Morpholine: A volatile amine, commonly used in boiler systems.
· Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE): Another volatile amine, often blended with other amines.
· Cyclohexylamine: Another volatile amine, can be used alone or in blends.
